Default Serious Help Needed (IE6 Styling) > IMAGE <

My site displays perfect in Firefox, however it does not in IE6.

    1) the 'FIND' button isnt in line with the search field.
    2) There is too much space below the navigation.
    3) The Fly-Out menu does not work, as in it doesnt Fly-Out.
    4) ShoppingCartHeading is blue instead of white.

Any advice on how to fix ANY of these are greatly appreciated, thanks.

Realistically, how many IE 6 visitors do you actually get? Have you looked in your server logs or analytics?

It's a dead browser and it is now long after the time it should have been buried.

There's a growing list of sites that no longer support it.

Having said that, it is probably possible to add conditional CSS to fix some of those issues. The question is, will it be time well spent?

I have an HTML 5 site, and that site displays side-bar ads for Firefox, Opera, and Safari, for all visitors using IE 6 and earlier.

It's time for IE 6 users to upgrade their browser. There are a LOT of choices.

Thanks for your reply, i have to disagree though i beleive more people use IE than you proabably think, it is the pre-installed browser on all my computers and many other computers/laptops ive used.

Im just trying to maximize my sites compatability, it could earn me a sale or two :)

    I agree with g1smd.

Also, you need to sort out your validation errors before even trying to achieve cross-browser compatibility. Different browsers will react to those errors differently.

    My CSS validation is OK.
My HTML validation has many errors but im a little confused because the HTML is coded by Zen Cart creators, how could they have it wrong?

We didn't create the template you are using - it contains the HTML. The stock template validates.
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

The exception for maintaining IE6 compatibility might be if you have a lot of corporate users, who may mandate an older version of Windows for some corporate application. Win2k and earlier cannot run any version of IE newer than IE6 (Win2k has no problem with the newest Firefox, though...)

IE is pre-installed on most all computers, but none of them sold in the last several years will be IE6.

Yes, it will very much depend on your customer base as to whether you see a lot of IE6 traffic on your site.

From the server logs of a ZC site picked at random I see that 1.8% of May's visitors used IE6. When bots and other non-human UAs are excluded, that changes to 2.2%.

I'd no longer cater for minor IE6 styling issues beyond making sure that all HTML and CSS code validates 100% to current standards.

Well a couple of my problems are also in IE7 aswell so fixing these will help me to fix the later version(s).

Il be sure to get my HTML validated first, if i can understand the errors :S

    EDIT:

The 'FIND' Button is the most occurant problem, if anyone can provide a solution would be forever grateful.

Many of the IE7 bugs are different than the IE6 bugs, so getting IE6 display fine-tuned will not necessarily help in IE7. I would really not worry about fine details as long as the site is fully functional in IE6. Concentrate on IE7, as that will be a significant factor for some years to come.
