Best Back Up Method?

Since I’m upgrading this week, I thought it might be good time to get some input on how others back up their zc's...

What is a good all around back up method? do you automate backing up? My method that, I made up one day seems a bit haphazard:

1. back up when I remember to, once or twice a month.
2. download the whole zc file set each time, mirror-syncing only the images folder
3. export the db via phpmyadmin and place with the zc file set.

A suggestion is to maintain a local fileset, that all changes are made to and FTP'd to the server. This way you always have a current set of your files locally.
On a busy shop one should backup the DB Daily and maintain a rolling number of days - i.e. 3days
Depending on your hosts environment there are methods that can be setup as a daily cron job

Is there anyway to automate this.

I am getting a little worried now about our sites as we are getting quite a few daily orders now and a crash would cripple us

What si the best way to automate the whole backup process?

All files and folders are backed up daily to a second hard drive on the web server, once a week I backup the whole directory structure and download it to my local machine.
The database is backed up every 12 hours and downloaded to local computer every week.

I have submitted a mod to Free Software Add Ons back in May but it has not been activated as of yet. Backup_ZC will allow the admin to backup all ZC files and DB. The need for this is that some hosts charge large amounts of money for controlled backups. With this mod the admin controls what is backed up and when.
