    Default problem with paypal transaction ID's

    I got paypal working great, until I noticed something either its me or a issue with paypal payment system.

    I used my card to purchase something from my site, and i passed the paypal confirmation. Paypal, took the money out and payment was completed successfully.

    However, when I received the email (this is the email sent to customer) there is a transaction ID on the top right of the page.

    I went to my admin and checked the transaction ID it doesnt match. When I click the transaction ID in admin--> orders, it takes me to paypal's listing the transaction details.

    I just wanted to say was, when the customer receives the paypal receipt, when i put that transaction ID in paypals website, it doesnt display anything. if I go to admin customers orders. Also the transcation ID in the orders page is different.. Why isnt the transcation ID same as on the customers recepit?

    Lastly, this is empty.. is that ok? thank you.

    I guess I can just ask the customer for there Order ID and other info to find there transaction..

    Why do you want to know the paypal transaction ID? The order number is enough. Always you can check in your paypal account the real transaction ID.

    That's normal. The customer transaction ID is specific to the customer, and the admin transaction ID is specific to the merchant. In the background at PayPal they may point to the same "transaction", but they point to different sides.
    Both numbers are perfectly correct.
    If you, the merchant, want to look up something related to the order, use the transaction ID shown in your admin area or on the paypal email receipt which paypal sent to *you*, not the customer.

    You can always talk to PayPal Merchant Services about it more if you need more clarification on how it works.

    Yes, that's okay. That's only filled in if there's a refund or some sort of update transaction which affects the original transaction.

    Now this is what I call excellent support service, it doesnt get any better.

    Yea, ill just use the order id to search for anything that is needed. I was just curious about how I will do the return process. I will just have them put the invoice in teh box and send me the package, and use the order number.
