Default Index page will not load, admin loads, changed databse password

    Hello all,

I am stumped. I have been working with my host all evening trying to figure out why my website will not load. It is at c r o c h e t g a r d e n .com

Earlier, I changed my password for my database. I then went in and changed the passwords in both config files.

I also, (I do not think this is related but posting it anyway in case) deleted files out of shop.old directory. This was where my shop was at a couple of years ago, until I moved it to the main directory. When there is an update, the old files go into the .old directory for backup.

After changing my password in both the config files in both the includes folder and the admin folder, I uploaded, and I get the error on the main page that the site cannot connect to the database.

I have version 1.39d. The only add on I have is for exporting addresses.

My host is stumped, as am I. Thank you in advance!

I wanted to give an update. I also have been working with my with this dilemma. I did get the index page of my website to come up, but only by reverting to my old password.

Here is what I have so thus so far:

    Reverting to old password:
    index of site: Works
    index of admin page: Works
    index of forum: Works

Changing to new password (and also all config files)
index of site: Does not work
    index of admin page: Works
    index of forum: Works

So this is where I am at. I have quadruple checked to make sure that the password is spelled correctly in config file that pertains to the index of the website page, and my host has also triple checked too.

Has anyone seen this before? Thank you in advance! :)

Remember, if your configure.php files are marked as read-only (as they're supposed to be), then any attempts to update the file with changes will fail, whether it tells you it failed or not.
Mark the file as writable first, then make your changes, and make it read-only again.

Yes, changed the CHmod to 644 when uploading. Also, to check that they were indeed containing the new password, I FTPd the file to an empty file then opened it in the text editor, and password was changed.

So far, I cannot find anything on the topic of this happening elsewhere. Sometimes, I think my computer is haunted :)

After you uploaded the file, what permissions did you set on it? Maybe you set them too low and the server can't read it?

    Good morning! :)

I left them all at 644 for the time being to make sure they would all be the same. I also then tried them at 444. Are those too low?

Every server is different. I can't answer that question. Your hosting company can tell you what the acceptable permission levels are.
