Adding Military Ranks to registration fields

I need to replace "Mr./Mrs." with a long list of military ranks. Anyone done that yet?

That would be a bit difficult in the 1.3+ series, but will be available in the future.

Then how can I eliminate the salutation choice altogether?

Turn it off in the Admin> Configuration> Customer Details> Email Salutation
