Thanks doc, I am using 1.3.9d for this shop - I think you guys updated the reference in this new version. Can it be something else?

There is only one place to deactivate a product: the products_status field.
If it's showing up in your admin with a red dot, then when you edit the product it'll also show up as "not in stock" (radio button). Both are indicators that the products_status field is set to 0.
And, when that field is set to 0, the product doesn't show up in the storefront ... unless you're using addons or old code that ignore that setting.

Thank you, can you please give me a little more information where should the coder look as the products do not show otherwise unless you go to a category that the deactivated products are in they show in new products for July.

    Appreciate your help

Can it be a cache issue?

looks like a zencart issue, it only occurs in the category (Show New Products - below Product Listing) otherwise on the main page all products are do not show that are deactivated

I just tested on a brand new clean install of v1.3.9d, and added the demo products, and browsed down to cPath=3_10 where there are several products. I then went into the Admin area and marked 3 of those products as Out of Stock (red dot). When I go back into the store under cPath=3_10, those 3 products I marked as out-of-stock no longer show in the New Products for July section, and of course they don't show in the product listing above either.
I even added some brand new categories with multiple levels, and disabled some products in the bottom level, and the disabled products properly disappear from the New Products centerbox.

The problem is not "a zencart issue".
It's a problem with the custom code you're using to display your customized New Products centerbox section, which is pulling products from the parent category (above the current one) regardless of status, unlike the built-in original New Products box which pulls only enabled products from only subcats below the current one.
