Cannot connect to database

I am getting this...

* Connection to Database failed
Access denied for user 'pontiac_ricxxxx'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Error.

I have made a database in Cpanel, noted the extensions it added to the username and database name I requested, and added and set all permissions for the user I am trying to use.

I've tried adding some tables to the database using PHP My admin and I could create a table.

I am using localhost as the database host, and I have tried using remote MySQL hosts as well but neither works.

This is a clean install of the newest version of zencart.

cPanel is prefixing your choice of user name and database with "pontiac_". Are you including these in the information that you're putting into your configure file?

Are you updating both configure files?

Are you making sure that your configure files are writeable before editing them?

I'm not putting anything in a configuration file, I still haven't got past the database step in the install process.

I'm adding the prefix that Cpanel is giving me for both the directory and username, and I set all access rights like the install instructions said to do.

I think the installer checks to see if everything is writable like it should be before it lets you go on. I'm pretty sure everything is as it should be.

When you set up your database and user name, did you link the user name to the database?

One other thing to try is to enter your CPanel user name (with appropriate prefix) and password (which are the default mySQL login credentials) as your Zencart DB login. If that works, then the DB user you set up isn't right somehow.

I found out what it was, I was using the create password feature in Cpanel and it was giving me crazy passwords like "g34D34%321f#f.
}=r"

I don't think Zencart likes the symbols, because if you take those out it works fine
