adding attributes

There are multiple steps to adding attributes to products. Sounds like you are missing some of these steps.

First, set an option name. (Red Shirt)
Second, give that option name some option values. ( small, med large)
Third go to the attribute controller and associate the option names and option values with a product (shirt)

Hello,
I am very new to this and I am hoping someone can help me with my question. I am wondering if there is any way to change the attribute option id and if there is any reason to? I am trying to add a drop down box for different scents available. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could walk me thru this!
