Default I install zencart the easy way Can I leave it like that?

hello! I'm very new to this website building thing. I thought zen cart would be an easy click and drag type like my hosting site.
Wow! I have to download this FTP thing and notepad ++ Just to make a few changes to the Shopping page??? I'm helping someone build a site and if someone hack her site, will they be able to access my computer (that's where I'm building the site) and my infomation in it? Basically when the site is done, she's going to take over it in her own computer. But I'm not going to delete anything because she might need help again.

Reading all this hacked stuff is scary!!!!! ps. she will buy a ssl ($69.95) then she has to buy a dedicated line (whatever that means?) when the site is finished. That's the best price right?

Default I install zencart the easy way Can I leave it like that?

Before I read on how to install Zencart or saw the tutorial on my hosting site, I just install it the easy way. I just download it and just set it up, that's all and I did a lot to the site already.

Now that I saw all this info I'm scared! I should install it the right way right? I didn't know I have a my_SQL database? So what do I do? Just follow the tutorial instructions and install it again. Do I just leave the old site alone and it will override itself with the new updates??

    ps. I am using firefox.

There are several answers, but we can be more specific if you will hit reply and answer the questions in the posting tips.

Websites are more complicated than just a Word document.

No. FTP is used to remotely access the webserver and transfer files to/from it ("FTP" stands for "File transfer protocol", and actually refers to the capability of doing transfers, although "FTP" has also become both a noun and a verb in website development vernacular.

    That would be logical.

Websites get hacked every day. It all depends on how secure the software is that's running your site and the quality of hosting management.

We don't discuss prices or vendors on this site. It's up to you to decide what's good for you and what suits your particular needs.

There is a seven-minute limit on post editing, so that someone doesn't change a post after it has been answered and make the thread confusing or misleading.
