    help question Adding products - HTTP 404 Not Found

    Hi Zenners!

    Have found this forum to be super helpful for everything I've needed but I've run into a problem I can't find a solution for!

    Im having trouble adding products all of a sudden, it comes up with "HTTP 404 Not Found" when I try to add new products under any category I've created.

    I can create new categories to my little hearts content but no new products? I've only got 9 products added so far!!

    I have tried refreshing, re-logging in, tried adding products into different categories but still nothing - everything else works fine.... Suggestions?? Any help would be great!!

    ( Maybe it's tired and it'll work again in the morning!! )

    Have you made any changes to the Admin since you last added a Product?

    Can you add a new manufacturer?

    What version Zen Cart?

    Clean install or an upgrade?

    Still having trouble this morning..

    No changes that I can think of, but this is most likely the reason! I've searched through Product Listing, Stock etc but it all seems fine there's nothing I can see like to disable the ability to add stock

    I've disabled manufacturer function as I don't use it, but I was able to add products after I did this yesterday.

    Using v1.3.9b through a web hosting company

    I would download Zen Cart v1.3.9d from Source Forge, the link is on our home page or in the footer of this page ...

    Upgrade your site to that ... there are problems with v1.3.9b and you are two versions behind already on releases that were made quickly to fix initial errors ...

    There are no database changes, just file changes ... and it may help you resolve the problem by finding bad, missing, mis-matched or corrupt files ...

    Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com is handy at doing site compares ...

    Hi, I was having the same problem today, and I figured out the problem. Basically, I changed the default "Product Types" to something appropriate to what I am selling. And I disabled all of the other "Product Types" because I will not need them. Well, apparently, I can successfully add a product to any of the default (irrelevant) "Product Types" but not to the one that I edited. So, the solution... Choose any other "Product Type" other than the one I edited. That's the only work-around I found. I am actually selling services not any products, so I guess I am stuck putting them in a default category unless somebody else finds a better solution. I have been searching for the answer for at least an hour with no luck.

    You need to change the Product Type you changed back to the original settings ...

    Those settings are specific to telling the code which files to use ... changing it breaks that ...

    For the Product General, the default settings should be:

    Product Type Name: Product General

    Product Type Default Image:

    Upload to directory: Main Directory

    Handler Page: product

    This Product can be added to cart: (checked)

    This product type should be considered a sub-type of: Product General
    NOTE: the last setting you may not be able to fix until you fix and update the other settings ...
