Default SubDomains and Redirected Domain Names and ZenCart

So I have a slightly unusual situation, well at least I have never had to deal with it before.

I have a friend that I installed ZenCart for on a subdomain that her hosting is based off of.

She has since purchased a totally different domain name for the shop and has redirected that url to point at the subdomain - however, it will still be hosted on the subdomain for the original domain name.

The issue is - ANY url that is provided for her customers winds up showing up as the subdomain, and not the redirected domain name (which makes sense).

She of course though would prefer the urls to show as the domain name that is redirected.

I have not been successful at finding this answered via a search nor at figuring out how to resolve it on my own.

If we could just hard-code ALL urls in ALL zencart emails to say the preferred URL - that would likely be the easiest solution, but I'm not even sure how to do that exactly.

Can anyone help me with this by any chance??? we are trying to get her shop set up in time for when she attends a show in 10 days.

You can change all URLs generated by Zen Cart simply by changing the root domain in the includes/configure.php file.

However if you are redirecting to the subdomain, rather than rewriting the URLs this won't solve the problem. Worse, it could cause a loop back and forth between old and new domain.

Don't be ########'ing around with redirects if there is a proper Domain name that can be (and is desired) to use. Either use Addon Domains if using cPanel, or get a new Hosting account. May sound harsh but in the long run, it is the easiest route to go.

Hummmm, so '########' is a bad word now is it? How about the name D i c k?

Agree with Website Rob. Best thing to do is to set the new domain up properly, i.e. pointing into the directory associated with the subdomain and then edit the configure.php files to reflect new domain name.

Yeah, it's an odd situation. She can't really afford hosting for two sites, which was why she did a subdomain but when she did that I wasn't thinking that she would want the url solely for that subdomain.

So barring actually setting up the domain name as a site unto itself - is there any way that I can change the urls in the emails that the store generates for customers in the meantime?

I guess we're not understanding the issue, since if the new domain has been pointed to the subdomain folder and the configure file entries changed as recommended above, the URLs in the emails would be those of the new domain name.
