Attributes not inserting

I am test driiving Zencart and have version 1.3.9d

There are things that worked a few hours ago, but do not work now. I am trying to set up a free download. I have created the product, Option name, Value name. But when I fill in the Attributes menu and click on "Insert", nothing is recorded...this says "No Attibutes Defined" This is the reason, I assume that the download is not working as I cannot tell it the filename. While the store is run, instead of a download, it asks for shipping info.

Ok, I have noticed that the FAQ's description of what to do appears to be incorrect. According to the index.php/article=7, I am supposed to enter the option value into the Attributes Controller. All the software is allowing me to do is select an Option Name to be transfered from the name field to the options field. If I do this as the software directs me to do, the settings entered are not saved. If I leave the option list blank and enter a filename, it will save the settings and it shows me a green icon with the filename as well as the download info.

You would think that it now works, but it does not. When I run the store, it does not go to download, but the checkout shipping instead
