Search Redirect Loop with Simple SEO URLs

I seem to be having troubles with the search function. This doesn't happen all the time, but certain search queries seem to cause the search to go into an infinite redirect loop.

In FireFox, I get this error:
The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
* This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

I'm running 1.3.9d with Simple SEO URLs. I can't think of another mod that would've changed the search function...

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Re: Search Redirect Loop with Simple SEO URLs

... and if you turn off your so-called SEO URL mod ?
... and remove all the rewrite rules from your .htaccess?

Dr Byte is politely suggesting that you get rid of this module - these "SEO Modules" are no longer necessary, and haven't been necessary for five or more years.

In fact, Search Engines prefer that URL re-writing is NOT used, and Matt Cutts (Head of Google Search Quality Team) said as long ago as September 2006 that using URL re-writers can do more harm than good.

Zencart's dynamic URL's are very easily spidered and indexed by the search engines.

There is no "magic wand" for SEO. Good rankings on the search engines are a consequence of how hard you are prepared to work to make your site relevant, content-rich, popular, and user-efficient. That can take a long time...

Re: Search Redirect Loop with Simple SEO URLs

I have the same problem with SSU and adding products to cart from search results.

Zen Cart 1.3.8 / SSU 3.8.5 / Module Manager rev18

You can find my site at http://tinyurl.com/3utocde

Here's an example:

searching for the string: "wh tropenbluse m40" I obtain the following results url:

.../index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=wh+tropenbluse+m40&x=36&y=9

and results contain the searched item.

Now, by clicking "Aggiungi al carrello" (italian for Add to cart) button I always obtain "too many redirect loops" error

Unfortunately I cannot just turn off SSU Seo module otherwise links from google will lead customers to home page and not to products pages (until google rescan new URLs)

Re: Search Redirect Loop with Simple SEO URLs

I'm with moosesoom on this. I'd love to ditch ssu. How do we handle things in the interim? Can ssu be set up to not rewrite urls it creates but still rewrite inbound urls?

Re: Search Redirect Loop with Simple SEO URLs

Hello,

I've recently installed Simple SEO and have since uninstalled it, and removed its htaccess rules.

However, I'm still having the same problem as described in the first post. That is to say, when using the search function on my site, it works fine. Except for when there is a term that will not be found on the site. In that case, the page turns up with a "310 too many redirects error".

It used to be that when a term could not be found, the advanced search page would come up.

Does this mean there is still an error somewhere in the htaccess file? Or is the error somewhere else?

I'd appreciate any input, even if it is to say I will not or cannot be helped!

Many Thanks!
