I agree that the first way is the best, most likely. A few questions:

Would I create the attributes in the attributes controller?
If so, will those attributes show up in the EDIT window for a given product?

I don't suppose I'll need to add any attributes for the pet owner's name, address or contact information since that is part of the buying process, right? (This is my first shopping cart ever, aside from paypal)
