    Default some folders are 777

usually folders with 777 permissions are not secure. I have my zen cart installed by simple scripts(which is provided by hosting) and I found couple folders are 777: cache, media, images and pub. should I be concerned and change them to 755 (and files to 644)? thanks.

You can use whatever permissions are appropriate for your hosting server's configuration to make those folders "writable" by Apache/PHP. If that's 755 for your unique case, then use that. If it's 777, then use that.
Ask your hosting company if you're unsure.
