Default New Australia Post Shipping Module?

I just stumbled across this new 'Australia Post Shipping Module':

    http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=1695

    Is this legit?

I installed it, configured it, but when I tried to test it, it disappeared!
I tried to install it again, but it won't come up?

Strangely enough, it looks like this module was only uploaded a few days ago, and downloaded only once...

This is a re-release of the very old AustPost module (V2.1.3) by yours truely. No, I wasn't the one that uploaded it, I don't know what (if any) changes were made between this version and my original.

An *unmodified* copy *should* work for regular parcels, but it will be unable to return quotes for any of the 'fixed price' methods (letters & satchels, insurance, etc).

I am not in a position to offer any support or give any suggestions as to why "it disappeared" on you (or any other issues with it for that matter).

If it works, great...... (I knew someone would get around to doing this eventually), but I would suggest that it may be prudent to look for an even OLDER version (or for someone to take care of a 'nasty' issue with this version, that won't be an issue with the older versions).

The 'issue' being that as it stands, the module is sending out invalid requests to the drc server (to obtain the unsupported fixed costs). These requests could be interpreted as a hack attack, and experience has taught me that continued and ongoing invalid requests to that server is prone to getting blocked.

The 'devil' in me says I shouldn't reveal this, and simply wait until peoples stores suddenly stop working as a result, but I'm really not that mean/nasty.

Anyway, a 'suitable' version without having to modify (and no less functional) will be any version pre V2.0.1 Or any version of 'auspost', which can be downloaded from:

Good on you Rod, much appreciated!

TO be honest I would prefer a simple module that does not rely on information from other servers at all. I'd be quite happy to update the latest prices for the different services regularly, and prefer a simple weight based calculation for each of the services offered.

OSC had this, and even though it was primitive, it worked very well.

I don't know you are thanking me for, I didn't resurrect the old code.

All versions of zencart has this capability via the zone/table rate shipping.

There is a little more to it than that... first you need to define the zones, and then shipping rates for those zones, and if you want anything even close to actual Australia post costs you are heading towards a nightmare..
However, that is entirely up to you.

Do you SERIOULSY beleive that Australia Post, etc will be happy to charge you this way? No, they all take dimensions into account and apply the cubing rules...
What is the point of doing a calculation based on weight alone only to find that when you go to mail the item(s) the Carriers end up charging you significantly more?

Yes, this does happen. (I didn't add the dimensional data just for grins and giggles)

    <cough><cough>
Please don't try to tell me what OSC has or doesn't have, because It really doesn't have anything more than what zencart has, which is why I've filled the 'gap' in that system by creating an ozpost client for that too, and currently, ozpost for OSC looks like it is going to be more succesful than ozpost for zencart...
Ironically, ozpost for zencart has been around in one form or another for a few years now. The OSC people have only had it for a few months, and the only free access they've had to the server has been the 60 day trial.
OSC registrations are currently leading zencart registrations by almost 2 to 1.

Methinks that although zencart is superior to OSC in almost every respect (IMO), the OSC users are far more greatful for the support they are given (possibly because they don't have as much support as zen). Either that, or they are just plain sick and tired of losing sales due to exessive shipping fees, or just as bad, losing money due to under quoting.

No matter what their reasons, it is an interesting observation (and certainly not something I expected).

Okay, i have been adding a few new things to that free mod that was uploaded, like removing images from the shipping estimator,

However i have noticed it isn't pulling the data for the cost of Register, suppose to be $2.95.

Anyone have any suggestions they like to share as to why it isn't working ?

Sure do. The drc.edeliver server simply doesn't supply this information, just as it doesn't supply insurance rates, letter rates, and satchel rates.

I suggest if you wish to add support for registered mail, just treat it is though it were another handling charge. Nice 'n simple.

    Cheers
