Shipping multiple items based on total weight, but need weight per box.

I've got the UPS and Zone Rate Shipping modules working great. Just one small glitch. When someone buys multiple items (note they will never be shipped in the same box) the cost is estimated based only on the total weight of the order.

For example;
Product 1 weighs 15 pounds (and for ground should cost $10.60)
Product 2 weighs 28 pounds (and for ground should cost $12.33)

So shipping should cost $22.93 BUT because it combines the weight to total 43 pounds (as if packing it into one box) it charges $15.05


Example 2;
Product 1 weighs 66 pounds (and for ground should cost $18.23)
Product 2 weighs 41 pounds (and for ground should cost $14.69)

So shipping should cost $32.92 BUT because it combines the weight to total 107 pounds (as if packing it into one box) it charges $56.21 NEARLY DOUBLE



So somehow somewhere I am hoping that I have missed some check box or something easy. Please tell me it's so.....

Sorry, no easy solution to this one.... At least not with the shipping module(s) that you are using... it sounds to me that you might need to use the cost_per_item shipping method, but I've no idea how this handles shipping to different destinations.

Is there another shipping mod I should be using instead? Or are there some lines of code that I could put in to make it calculate it differently?

I'm having the exact same problem. Would this be some type of attribute that could be set with the attribute controller? Somehow force the cart to break certain items out to package separately?
