I have created a new template for a newsletter I would like to send out. As I understood it I could put in certain fields to customize in the email for instance:

Hey $EMAIL_FIRST_NAME!

How are you? Your email address is $EMAIL_TO_ADDRESS.....



However, when I send out this newsletter the only thing that they see is exactly what is shown above, it does not replace it with information about the customer.

I have looked everywhere to try to figure out what I am doing wrong?
