Default Undefined function error on fresh install

I'm attempting a fresh install of 1.3.9e. After the first screen of the installer, I get a blank page. With error reporting turned on, this is the message I get: "Fatal error: Call to undefined function: date_default_timezone_get() in /mypath/zc_install/includes/application_top.php on line 52".

Any ideas? I checked through the thousands of files, and there doesn't seem to be anything missing, and I've tried re-uploading them to no avail. Where is that function defined?

    Thanks!

That's related to a PHP function call that's not supported in some versions of PHP. It should be harmless to ignore.

Why do you have error-reporting turned on anyway?

I turned error reporting on because I'm getting a blank page and a fatal error trying to run the installer. If I can't run the installer, then I guess I'll try doing everything manually.

What version of PHP are you using?

It's a shared hosting service with PHP 4.4.7. My chances of getting them to upgrade PHP are nil.

Oy! You do realize that that's ancient, right? And that the next version of Zen Cart won't run on that.

I know it's ancient. The trials of shared hosting picked by the client. If the current version of Zen Cart will run, I'll set it up and then work on getting moved to another host or getting the current one to upgrade.

The client is currently running an ancient version of Zen Cart that was installed literally years ago, so it desperately needs an upgrade.

Sorry, I misinterpreted something about versions earlier and made an incorrect assumption in one of my earlier comments.

If you're stuck with PHP 4, your temporary workaround can be found here: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...23&postcount=5

But you really should be upgrading to PHP 5 if at all possible, since PHP4 isn't even supported by the PHP authors anymore and won't receive any security updates.
