upgraded 1.3.8a to 1.3.9e from my hosting control panel ... now what?

I had cart version 1.3.8a. In my hosting control panel there was an option to upgrade. I clicked on it and it informed me that it could only upgrade me to 1.3.9e and then I would need to run the upgrade process again to get to the latest (1.3.9h). So I hit upgrade and off it went. All appeared good until it finished and gave me a "Complete Upgrade" link which tried to launch zc_install. Only problem is zc_install/index.php never loaded...blank white page. I found 1.3.9e at sourceforge, downloaded it and uploaded that zc_install folder. Tried to go to zc_install manually, but still blank white page. I can login into the store's admin panel just fine and go to the storefront just fine. The store front and admin server info both show I need to upgrade the database. From reading here I have to do that in zc_install, but that page is blank. Help?

As has been stated here many times, using any host's automatic upgrade process is very strongly discouraged and will likely lead to problems -- as you've discovered. You should ask your host how to fix the problem they caused.

To upgrade from 1.3.9e to 1.3.9h you need to upload the zc_install folder from 1.3.9h - but be aware that this only upgrades the database.

To update the changed files between 1.3.9e and 1.3.9h you need to read the contents of the Docs folder.

But it also sounds as though the automated upgrade messed things up in general.

I realized I had set the permissions of /includes/configure.php to 444. I reset to 644 then ran the upgrade again. All is well now. Thanks for the inputs.
