Category Sidebox keep Parent Cat/Subcats open?

On my categories sidebox i need have the Parent category remain open when clicked into one of it's subcats. Currently you click the parent cat, then when you're at the bottom level subcat of that parent the menu closes up to the top level which is not good because you have to begin clicking all over again to move to an adjacent subcat.

I've spent a couple days looking for this in the forums and around the web and it seems like it should be a no brainer. I really don't want to have to tweak the sideboxes/tpl_categories.php file but it looks like i'll have to. Has anyone else done this?



BTW i have "Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories" set to 1

Solved this. I was having another SSU module cache issue. Here's the fix:

go to the SSU options in the admin:
Configuration > Simple SEO URL
- set max category level to a high number
Go to Extras > Simple SEO URL Manager
- click Reset all cache

actually this didn't work. My cats are all staying shut now that i've reset SSU.
