    Default Digital Downloads Error

    Hello,

Can't seem to find this issue, so here goes.

When a customer purchases digital content and attempts to download, the file begins, downloads a small amount (about 200mb) of the file and it cancels. My /pub is set at 777. My .htacess is set to 777 as well.

    Any help, is highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Maydeycom

How long a time before it cancels?

200MB is a rather large download and your host is probably set to time out php after some interval of time

This previously has never been an issue. We've successfully had customers download 800mb files with no issue. This has recently happened with no known explanation.

Might be best to discuss with your host then

Submitted a ticket to the host. They replied saying they cannot help me because zen is third-party software.

    - "when" did it start?
    - what else was going on in your site or hosting account around that time? any changes to the server by the hosting company?
    - what version of Zen Cart?
    - is the download canceling as a result of someone *else* starting *their* download?
    - have you turned OFF the GZip compression setting in Admin->Configuration->GZip Compression? (You should do turn it off if you're having download problems in v1.3.9e or older.)
    - does this happen to *everyone*? or just *some* customers? Any pattern to *which* customers? or to time of day/week? busy times? slow times?
    - etc

It started nearly 6 months after downloads were successfully being downloaded.

No changes to host account that I am aware of.

It was an earlier version of zen. I have since deleted the store and upgraded to v1.3.9g. Problem still occurs.

It's happening to everyone. No pattern. Any time.

Any help is appreciated. Sorry for the late reply.

Here's a screen grab of my settings via TwitPic :

Also, this is what my host had to say to me about this matter:

"First you should ask your developers or your software support/community if specific PHP settings (or something else) are required to be applied. As we are not your developers, we cannot help you on this, unfortunately. Once you know all required details it will be possible to check and suggest something to do."

I tried download by stream as well, with no luck.

When using "Download by Redirect", Zen Cart does this:

    a) creates a symlink to the file into the /pub/ folder
    b) sends file headers to the browser denoting the content type and the filesize and sets the cache lifetime to 0 so it's not cached
    c) redirects the customer's browser to the symlinked file, where the browser interacts directly with Apache to complete the entire download

Thus Zen Cart is completely out of the picture once the actual download starts, meaning that the customer is at the mercy of your hosting webserver once they see the file starting to download.

Maybe that will help your hosting company figure out what's breaking while Apache is serving the file to the customer?
