Default migrating local development to a new PC

    Hi,

I have a site developed using Zencart 1.3.8.

I have recently purchased a new PC, and want to re-create my local development site on it, and upgrade to 1.3.9e.

I have installed XAMPP, but can't get Zencart to work (blank screen after install), and after a lot of head scratching, found the following from Dr Byte:
    You're using PHP 5.3.x
Zen Cart v1.3.7 is NOT compatible with PHP 5.3, which is why you're getting those messages.
If you want a PHP5.3-compatible version of Zen Cart, use v1.3.9."
So, my question is what is the best way of tackling this? Can I install 1.3.9e, then import my old version into it? Or should I install an older XAMPP and upgrade afterwards? Or upgrade my site to 1.3.9e on my old dinosaur PC, then import over?

Any instruction on the best method/timeline would be much appreciated, and please treat me as a newbie - it's the first time I've tinkered with Zencart since I built my site so have forgotten a lot.

    Many thanks,
    Adam.

wow, thanks so much for the quick reply.

I've been rooting around the forum site and came across talk of version 2.0. Is this likely to be soon?

The reason I ask is to save myself the trouble of upgrading twice if the new version is only a few weeks away...

Even when it is released, 2.0 will be in beta for a while, rather than suitable for developing sites. So it's best to work with what's available now.
