Does anybody know of a way to implement a stock control system into zen cart so that a standard high street shop automatically adjusts stock in the shopping cart when a sale is made through a cash till? All suggestions welcome.

Does anybody know how to do this and has anybody done anything similar? Can this be done using the sage or quickbooks add ons?
What you're really asking about is integrating your POS system with your online store.
You're suggesting that this might be possible via your accounting system. However, I doubt it. Even if your pos system has a real-time link to Sage or Quickbooks, my experiences of Sage are its more interested in importing than exporting data (other than as financial reports) and Quickbooks online is a nightmare (and only available for US customers anyway).
A direct link between your POS system either to a shared inventory tool, or an ERP system is a more likely solution. Althernatively one of the online accounting packages with a decent API (we like Xero) is more likely than the traditionally desktop-bound accounting packages to have the support you'd need. I doubt you'll find this as an off-the-shelf solution however.
