Template for 1.3.8 - used with 1.3.9?

Hi, I'm new to Zen Cart.

I found a template that fits my needs in terms of design.

The problem is, the seller marked it as '1.3.8 only'. I contacted their support twice, one time I've been told there shouldn't be any problems to use it with 1.3.9, second time I've been told forget it, it only works on 1.3.8

The template is pretty pricey, so before I buy it, I would like, if possible, to get some opinions from you guys.

I wouldn't mind installing 1.3.8 and using the template, but obviously, this is not the preferred option.

Few here will recommend a Template Monster template (I assume that's who you're dealing with) in any case, but since at least one person at TM has said it won't work in 1.3.9, I'd take his word for it.

Templating Zencart isn't that hard - why not take a stab at doing it yourself ?

Yes, it's TM I'm talking about :). The one I was looking at, fits perfectly the design I'm looking for. That would save me a lot of time; for the same reason, I can't start from scratch.

Would any of the free templates help? You can see them "in action" at http://(sorry, site offline)/. Use the pulldown menu to change templates and see what they look like on a real site.

Yes, it's TM I'm talking about :). The one I was looking at, fits perfectly the design I'm looking for. That would save me a lot of time; for the same reason, I can't start from scratch.

You will not save time with an incompatible template... If anything it will require MUCH MORE time - because when things go wrong, you'll be spending many hours on this forum looking for help.

Concentrate on FUNCTIONALITY, not COSMETICS. webshoppers don't care what shade of blue you use... they want to know that they can shop quickly, safely and reliably.

Start with very simple design - base it on a free template.

Later on, (when the money from sales is pouring in), you can look at design improvements. - if these are necessary at that stage!

I have a client whose site is almost nothing better than the standard zencart "classic" template... She makes Hundreds of Thousands of pounds a year.

When I suggested she improved the design of her site, she asked: "Why? What for?"
