red flag Should I buy from templatemonster?

    Hello

I have very basic idea about Zen Cart and for one of my friend we are going to purchase one template from www.templatemonster.com it is in Zen cart 1.3.8 . My question is if I download higher version of ZenCart would it be created any problem or Do I have to opt for Zen Cart 1.3.8. Please advise this novice.

    Thanks.

Before you by anything from TM, please search the forum for more information. Template Monster is notorious for disabling admin functions in their templates and making it difficult to change anything. For the most part, they DO NOT use the override system properly, so any problems you encounter using any Template Monster template, you will have to ask TM to help you because no one on the forum will be able to.

If the template is labeled for 1.3.8, it's unlikely it'll work with 1.3.9.

And DO NOT use ZC v1.3.8, as it has security issues in its basic form which need to be patched before using. It will be much easier and more secure to use the latest version.

The only reason to use an older version is if you have customizations that do not work with a later version and you do not know how to modify them. As stated above 1.39 incorporates all the security patches that 1.38 needed to be manually installed.

Thanks , all of you for giving me so much valuable advise which will help me in taking decision. I think it is better to adapt the template which are free and will try to customize them as per the need of my friend. Is my thinking OK?

Being a newbie I want to add one navigation bar with drop down menu facility to select different types of T shirt my friend is going to sale. ( T shirt of various color, various price). I think this can be done in Zen Cart. Just asking whether my thinking is on right track or not.

Once again thanks all of you for so much support and give me immense help. I really love this forum. SUPERB ....!!!!!!!!

    Regards

Template Monster markets templates under various names (kind of like a franchise). I'm not familiar with the one you mentioned. Search the forum for the name and see if anything pops up.

I think those are Template Monster, and to be regarded the same as other TM templates, with suspicion. If you buy or use one, don't expect us to be able to help much with any problems.
