broken header image in IE WITH logo

Hi -
We are running v1.3.9e on a site and are having trouble finding a fix to the following:

In IE if we use our header logo added as a BG image to the logoWrapper div, it does show up. However, there is an additional missing image icon (red x) that appears along with it.

If we edit the includes/languages/english/header.php file we can add alt txt to the "phantom" image and we can point to the location of the file. However, as soon as we remove the logoWrapper BG image, there is no logo that shows up but the rex X still appears.

Searched forums, and we can't seem to find a way to get the header logo to appear WITHOUT the red x.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. This is the URL to check out in IE:
