Default PDT Token question for PayPal IPN - Website Payments Standard

What exactly is the PDT Token for the pay Pal IPN?

I just set up a store with Pay Pal Website Payments Standard and it's working fine, purchase went through AOK so I was wondering what the purpose of the token is. I did a search on it in this forum nothing came up...

    Thanks,

It's a bandage created by PayPal to attempt to fix a design flaw in the whole Website Payments Standard architecture.

PDT tries to get around the fact that your store doesn't see order details until the IPN system tells your store about the payment. It works okay in theory. In practice it has many shortcomings.

Far more reliable is Express Checkout, instead of WPS.

So Pay Pal Website Payments Standard will not function with the Express Checkout mod?

Also with Express Checkout, is there any difference between that and Web Payments Standard as far as PCI DSS compliance is concerned?

i.e. will I have to fill out and sign that pci dss form and sign it and submit my server to audits and security scans if I use Express Checkout?

No, they won't run side by side because they're basically the same thing as far as the customer is concerned, and having both is just plain stupid because it leaves the customer wondering which one to choose ... and that leads to loss of sales.

You've already asked the same question before in multiple threads and had answers.
But despite it being off topic for this thread, I'll answer it again: No, there's no difference.
Presently PayPal is not demanding any specific PCI assessment of you.

You're asking the wrong question. You should STILL be sure you're using secure servers and secure software, regardless of whether your payment processing provider demands it of you.

    OK thanks.

So what will Express Checkout do that Web Payment Standards not do? What's the advantage in features?
