sort by model#

I would like for the products to display sorted by model#, is this possible?
I have noticed the "Display Product Listing Default Sort Order" in the Product Listing Configuration tab, is there a command I can put in to this field to achieve this? The word "model" doesn't work...

Turn on the Module field ... 0 is off and the values are the display order ...

Then, go to the Product Listing in your store and click on Model until it displays in the order you want ...

Now look at the URL and see what is after the word:
sort=

Example: 3a

Now, go to the Admin and in the Configuration ... Product Listing ... set the Sort Order to that value ...
