I've got two things not working for me, need little here

I'm workin in version: v1.3.9e.
Trying to create a simple webshop for my sister. Going great but there are still two problems that I can't seem to fix.

Problem 1) The space in between the logo and categories, dutch version the text is gone but the space is still there. English version the text is still there but that's not the one I'm using. I've already tryed 10 differend things to remove the space, there all not working.

Problem 2) When I try to send an e-mail with the contact form. there is a error. "Could not instantiate mail function" tryed all the settings but stil not working. I does work on a differend website with the same settings, that I made a month ago.

Please help me getting those problems out of the way.
