You would have to do a "copy/duplicate" instead of "copy/link", so that the new product would be separate and could have different properties. If you do that, you will have to make any updates to both copies, as they will no longer be views of a single item in the database.

Default Re: "Copy" product to new category, $10 in one cat, $0 in another?

Ok, I did that. Thank you : )

So now when I copy / duplicate, I have a choice to "copy attributes" or not.

(I said no.) So it blanked out the price, so I got my $0 price in the second category - good.

But it left the orginal QUANTITY.

So, if the products are no longer linked, is it correct that buying one from either the first or second category will ONLY reduce the quantity in the system in the one category and NOT Both?

So if I have the same producst in one category for $10 and another category for $0, and they are Not linked, does that mean I will mess up my inventory count? (especially if I want to combine them all to the $10 category again someday)?

    Thank you for your help.

Products are either their own record with their own data in the products table ...

or, they are Linked Products that share 1 record ...

If you copy a Product as a Linked Product, then everything about the Product is shared ... quantity, price, etc.

If you copy a Product as a Duplicate Product ... you have made 2 Products and each of the 2 Products has its own price, quantity etc. and there is no relationship between the 2 Products ...

This means, that you cannot have the same Product with 1 price in 1 category and 1 price in another category and share the quantity as they are 2 separate Products when you do a Copy as Duplicate Product ...
