Linking sub cats to multiple parent cats?

How would one link one sub category to multiple parent categories?

Sorry, that isn't going to happen. You can make new subcats in the other locations, and then copy/link all of the products into each of them.

OK I am revisiting this issue, since apparently I can't have one sub cat with the same name and cat id linked to multiple parent cats, is there a way around this?

I tried creating a sub cat with the exact same name of an existing sub cat located in another parent, but even though ZC assigns two different cat id's for the sub cats, the new sub cat does not appear in the Multiple Categories Link Manager and I can't link products to it. So I am assuming ZC does not like two different cat id's with the same category description....is this correct?

Only the first cat in categories-description table shows in the manager...

So is there a way to have a sub category with the same name located in several different parents? Any way around this?

You can have subcats in different categories with the same name - I have several in my site. Each of them will have a different cat id. (It does make it tricky to handle in admin sometimes - you have to keep a record of which subcat id goes in which top cat.)

Trouble is, the cat with the same - different cat ID did not appear in the Multiple Categories Link Manager, even though it did show in the category list under Categories / Products with the different cat id than the original. I even changed the name and it still does not show in link manager.

Any idea what would cause this?

Maybe try linking one product to that subcat individually? Some of the copy or link functions only work on a product or category which already has one - I don't recall right now which ones.

Interesting thanks much that worked.

Funny thing is, I had to create a dummy test product in the empty - new category before it would show up in the link manager.

Once I created a dummy item in the new cat having the exact same name of the other cat with a different cat id, the new cat with the different cat ID now shows up in the Multiple Categories Link Manager along with it's twin. I then deleted the dummy product and the cat still shows.

Funny how that works,
