changing cart width on 1.3.9d

i wish to change my cart width to full page/screen

i searched and found a set of instucitons to change certain lines on my css file,, but the lines they say to change are not even founf on my css file,, any advise

i am using 1.3.9

THe proper statement in the stylesheet is #mainWrapper. Set the width to 100%.

If you don't have #mainWrapper in your stylesheet, you're using a custom template, and we'll need a link to the site.
