Attributes + Different Part Numbers

I want them to be able to personalize each item in their cart with exactly what they want to write

To be able to do this will require much custom code

if they order 6 of one product item and/or order 8 different product items,

8 different can be done as eack is a product
6 of one with each a different added text is an issue

I followed the FAQ instructions of 'How do I add attributes to my products?", and thought everything was working well until I tested the results on my site. These are error messages I received:

Is it possible for this to work by modifying the "TEXT(this does not get an option value)" under Options Name Manager?

What you have there is not 6 of one item, but one each of 6 differently engraved items. If the actual item has one engraving field, your product should have one text field. Each different one the customer orders will show in the cart as a distinct item with its text. If they want two of one text, they can order that by selecting qty 2 when adding to cart.

But my problem is that I get multiple error messages when I tested the attributes on my site. So it appears that none of the attributes are working correctly. I really need to get this fixed so I can open the site. Please advise if you can. Thanks!
