Default Upgrade button gone - zc_install

I ran the zc_install to upgrade from 1.3.7... the installer failed, so I went back to check the permissions, configure.php files, etc.

When I ran it again, the UPGRADE button was gone and the only option I am presented with is the Install button.

The upgrade did fail, I double checked.

Are there some cache files I need to remove? Or other files to make the installer see this as an upgrade again? I did make sure to clear the browser cache.

The "upgrade" button only appears when the database settings in the configure.php files point to a valid database.

1 Make sure that you made a copy of your Live Site database to a Test database for upgrading

2 Make sure you added to the Test database its own username and password

3 Maker sure that you copied your Live site configure.php files to your Test directory
    /includes/configure.php
    /admin/includes/configure.php

    /test/includes/configure.php
    /test/admin/includes/configure.php

4 Make sure that you customized these files:
    /test/includes/configure.php
    /test/admin/includes/configure.php

with the Test database, username, password and paths ...

    Now when you run the:
    /test/zc_install

it will have the Upgrade for the database button ...

I am stuck and have noticed a number of posts that seam to be about a similar problem, however I can not find a solution in any of them.

I am in the process of this upgrade to 9f and trying to update the database with the zc_install folder, however I also do not get the upgrade option.

The database is a copy of the current 1.8 store database and I have followed the upgrade instructions uploading the new 9f version into a sub folder and copying across the config files with the new database info.

No upgrade option and I can not see anything wrong with the database connection settings. In face the new version in the subfolder is giving me the warning in admin that the database needs upgrading so it must be working with it.

    What am I missing???

IF you do not see the UPGRADE button, this is because you have not put a valid configure.php file:
    /includes/configure.php
    /admin/includes/configure.php

with the database, username, password and correct paths ...

The idea is, you really do not want to UPGRADE a Live Site without testing things ...

So, if you have a copy of the Live Database in an Upgrade Database with its own database name, username and password ...

and a copy of the Live site in an Upgrade directory ...

and an edited copy of the configure.php files:
    /includes/configure.php
    /admin/includes/configure.php

in your Upgrade directory that have been edited to use the new Upgrade database, username and password and the new paths to the Upgrade directory ...

you will then see the Upgrade option ...

IF you have done everything for the copy of the Live database to the Upgrade database and the copy of the Live site to the Upgrade directory ... but you have NOT put in the configure.php files:
    /includes/configure.php
    /admin/includes/configure.php

with the edited paths, database, username and password ...

you will NOT see the Upgrade feature and you will only see the Install feature ...

I am aware that there are number of steps to this and that I may have missed something, however I have also read the upgrade instructions and the forum posts and I can not spot what I have done different.

Here are the steps I complete so far:

Downloaded the new file set 1.9f and ftp'd them to a new sub-folder on my server.

Created a new mysql database on the server.

Exported the live database contents to and sql file and imported this to the new database using phpmyadmin.

Copied the includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php files from my live site which is in the domain root folder to the relevant folders on the new sub-folder 1.9f file set.

Updated the configure files with the new database name and file paths for the new sub-folder 1.9f file set.

Used firefox to navigate to the zc_install and found no upgrade option.

I have started this process in a different sub-folder with the 1.9a release however I never completed it before the b-f bug fixes came out so I thought I would just start again. When I did this process last time I did manage to do a database upgrade however this time something has gone wrong.

I don't understand this as if you navigate to the new sub-folder 1.9f file set admin log in and log in the site has data from the database and recognizes that it has not been upgraded so surely it must be connecting correctly via the configure files?

Might this be something to do with an add on database upgrade completed on the live 1.8 site, which has copied across to the new database, which means the zc_install does not recognize the database, not having had the same add on put in the new sub-folder 1.9f file set?

    Any ideas please.
