Since you have products in Top without any categories, you have to delete the products to be able to make categories. How many products do you have? You can copy their information to somewhere on your computer temporarily to make it easier to recreate them.

Six CD releases only... but I am afraid that I cannot recreate them as I finally have, Also, will I lost actual info regarding "product" such as quantity, etc?

You may want to look at Easy Populate (free version in Free Addons) to help you export the product info and re-import it after making categories.
