I have a fresh install of v 1.3.9f

What am I missing here? My featured products are not showing up on the main page.

I have tried every value under admin>config>Index listing>Show Featured Products on Main Page

The designated products show up when I click "Featured Products..." on the categories sidebar on the store front.

I'm probably overlooking something completely obvious, but what do I need to do to get the featured products to come up on the main page?
