Alignment of attribute images
I know there are several posts that deal with attribute images, but I'm still struggling after attempting way too many fixes.
Housekeeping -- 1.3.8, add'l images handler, stock by attributes, a grid thingy, are a few of the add-ons I've installed.
What I want:
1) nice little attribute images in rows of four, with the labels and select radio buttons centered below the images.
2) nice spacing between the rows and the columns
One issue is definitely template related. When I change the Catalog>Option Name Manager>Option Name to
Rows: 4
Display Size: 160
Maximum length: 160
Attribute Images per Row: 4
Attribute Style for Radio Buttons/Checkbox: 4
it results in rows of attributes but they overlay each other instead of being nice spaced (When I use the classic template!). When I use my modified template, I get a vertical column. I know that is template related, but I just can't find the file that I need to change.
The second issue is that the jumbled images is also not what I want. I kept looking for somewhere where I could select an image size, gutter width, and perhaps even fonts -- but can't find it. I've checked in a bunch of places, but no happiness.
Where am I going wrong? This seemed like it should have been so easy!

And just in case some of you want to follow along, after this is fixed, here are some screen captures:
