    Default Mobile SSL connection problem

    Hi

I have recently installed an SSL certificate on one of my client's sites.

He can still access the admin using his PC but gets an Error 500 gateway message when he tries to access using his mobile.

The mobile is a Vodaphone using NetFront Browser v3.5

    Please can anyone help?

I've tried my hosting company but they have responded:

"I'm unable to replicate this problem on any smart-phone browser or standard PC browser.

It's possible this browser doesn't like handling SSL certificates though I can't find any information to prove or disprove this online."

    thanks

The SSL certificate was purchased in order to give customers peace of mind and security when placing credit card orders online i.e. a padlock symbol and a https domain address.

The solution is not perfect but it at least gives my client remote access to his admin area.

Within the Zen files there are switches to enable SSL for checkout and separately for the admin area.

I left the checkout one enabled and disabled the admin switch.
The username/password and security patches obviously still apply to the admin area.

My client cannot go through the checkout process on his mobile since the address reverts to https.
His concern is that potential customers also will not be able to place orders using their mobiles, but we do not know whether this is a problem confined to the vodaphone/NetFront Browser v3.5 combination or a general one.
If anyone would care to try and connect using a mobile the site is www.properjobpopups.co.uk, the error (500) appears when trying to go through the checkout process where the site address becomes https.

"Error 500" is an "Internal server error", issued by the server, not by the browser accessing it. And whenever an error occurs on the webserver, it is logged along with a reason why it occurred. Your hosting company has access to those logs. Perhaps you can convince them to look up the details.

    Thanks DrByte

I asked the host company to look at the details, this is the response:

    "Hello,

I have just accessed the website with https://properjobpopups.co.uk on my HTC Android Phone and cannot see any problem.

If there is a problem appearing in one particular browser, that must be to do with the way that browser handling the connection.
It may get error 500 for improper handling.
Please confirm whether you are seeing problems with any other browsers on mobile devices or ordinary computers.
Not all mobile browsers are expected to work correctly by design.
You may try using Opera Mobile, which a mobile version of a major browser package."

I haven't got access to other mobiles so I can't check other browsers - any feedback from the community would be very welcome

You need to get the guy who *is* having the problem to trigger the problem again, then note the date and time, and get your hosting company to stop deflecting the issue and show you the logs which show the 500 error and the cause for it.

My hosting company makes available to clients the Webalizer software.
They emailed me to say that the error logs are available to view within the control panel supplied.
I asked my client to trigger the problem to see what error messages were recorded, but unfortunately by that time he had upgraded his mobile and the problem no longer existed.
So unfortunately nothing is resolved, and we presume potential customers with the NetFront Browser v3.5 on their mobiles will not be able to place orders on his site.
Thanks DrByte for your comments & suggestions, I am posting this for general info. as it may affect other Zenners
