    Default attributes that need a value before buyer can proceed

    Hi, on my site http://www.thegreatgiftshop.co.uk under golf presents and gifts>Golf Trolley & Bag Pen Holders

    All the products have an option for engraving, if the customer chooses they want an engraved plaque but dont put in a message or select a font and add to cart how then can an error message pop up telling them they need to select a font and type in their message?

    A simple thing that really is needed and will save a lot of confusion!

    Nope I'm afraid still not quite there. I dont think i explained clearly enough what was required;

    You see I only want the customer to be forced to insert text into the text field when one of the font styles are selected from the 'font' dropdown

    If 'no engraving' is selected from the 'font' drop down then obviously the customer can just add to cart but if they've picked a font it means they want an engraving and must be forced to enter an engraving message.

    I would like it to work exactly like our suppliers engraving system as you can see; http://www.tartantrader.co.uk/oval-s...ase-p-942.html

    if you pick no engraving you can add to cart, if you select a font but dont type anything and try and add to cart it pops up an error message telling you you need to input an engraving message and I would like that to happen to mine please.

    Any ideas?

    I missed out something sorry! There's also a drop down at the top: 'add a plaque' if 'no' is selected from this then they can just add the item to cart without having to select a font or type an engraving message. But if 'yes' is selected then they must be forced to select a font and a message. Basically needs to work as the engravers attributes I showed a link to.

    I hope this is clear! Thanks

    dear oh dear I cant get this right, have changed the attributes again - sorry! Basically now, theres font drop down box if 'no engraving plaque' is selected then the buyer can just add to cart without entering engraving text but if a font is selected then the customer will be forced to enter engraving text and cannot add to the cart without a warning message popping up to remind them they need to type in a message. Exactly as our supplier tartan trader has done.

    Third time lucky!! Thanks

    I'm not all that handy with Javascript, but I'd guess you could look at the source code of that supplier's page and figure out how they did that. Failing that, maybe they'd help you out if you asked.

    Yes I think I'll ask their tech guy as he's helped me in the past. Thanks!
