    Default Currency conversion

I have default in US Dollars but options for GB Pound and Euro. In test mode, I received this error in the step 2 - payment information. Any help would be highly appreciated as this will be a deal breaker. I went with Zencart because it had the currency feature. I can't go live without this working.

(TESTMODE) The supplied currency code is either invalid, not supported, not allowed for this merchant or doesn't have an exchange rate. - Your credit card could not be authorized for this reason. Please correct the information and try again or contact us for further assistance.

The GBP seems to be calculating correctly in the shopping cart.

First time I was able to test this as I just configured the payment module.

Could it be simply because of it being in test mode?

    Thanks in advance.

What currencies have you negotiated to be supported in your Authorize.net account?

I am checking with the customer on this. When I contacted authorize.net, they stated:

"I am sorry but Authorize.Net only supports transactions in U.S. dollars (USD) for U.S. based merchants. For information on accepting global payment types, please see the CyberSource Web site at: www.cybersource.com."

So I have to wonder, can Zencart be configured to display converted Euro and GBP but, in the end, actually charge USD? That would solve this problem I think.

    Thanks!

You could write your own custom code to convert it for submission.

Write my own code? Not going to happen.

So you don't think I missed a configuration setting or that test mode is creating the problem?

Your earlier reply seemed to suggest that you've seen this work before with authorize.net. If so, I can press them and find a more-informed support person there.

    Love your tag line.

Now, at least I'm better informed and will put more emphasis on an authorize.net solution while I continue to look for solutions.

    Thanks for your help.

Authorize.net has always supported only USD. And the Zen Cart modules for Authorize.net do not do any currency conversion: they were written with only USD in mind.

If you want to accept payments in alternate currencies, the generally accepted practice as enforced by merchant account companies is to create multiple merchant accounts, ie: one for each bank account, since each bank account handles only one currency.

    Dr. Byte,

It seems the easiest way to make this work is to somehow display the USD, GBP or Euro pricing as requested by the end user but actually pass USD to authorize.net. This is the code you wanted me to write (ROFL)? Sorry, but code is not my forte.

In your opinion, how long would it take a competent coder/programmer to write the code if I had to hire someone to do it?

I think multiple merchant accounts is probably out of the question because of the customer's low volume of sales and the recurring costs the additional merchant accounts would incur.

If you would like to see the site, it is at staffordshire-enamels.com, but it is in maintenance mode so I would need your IP (unless you have your own work around for that).

Thanks again for your help. Zencart is awesome, just difficult sometimes.

So, you're a UK company with a USD merchant account? How'd you swing that?

The products are made in England. The company's principles live in New York. So I guess, the company is in the US and the factory is in the UK, although I think they want things to look like a UK company (e.g. the spelling of some words... catalogue).

So I can tell my customer, how much time/cost do you think this piece of code would be?

On the other side of the set of options and for your (and other Zenners information), I talked to CyberSource, who owns authorize.net. They replace authorize.net when you have a merchant account that supports multiple currencies. They suggested Chase Payment Tech or First Data. Good stuff to know, no?

I have to admit, ZenCart has been a real learning experience.

LOL. Visa owns CyberSource, which owns Authorize.net. And they're direct competitors to Chase and FirstData. Curious that they're recommending their competition.
