v1.3.9e - no sold out message if item already in cart

Hi all,

I've recently updated to 1.3.8e and it has come to my attention that when a customer has products in his cart but does not complete the sale immediately but instead logs in at a later date in order to complete the sale - he gets no message that the product has in the meantime become sold-out.

e.g. if a person has logged in and put product X in their cart but logs out without completing a purchase, if then product X subsequently sells out and they log-in later, they will see product X in their cart with nothing to say that they cannot complete their purchase. If they press checkout nothing happens and no message comes up.

any ideas how to fix this?

When you say "sold out", do you mean merely that the quantity-on-hand is set to 0, or do you mean that the product's status has been set to disabled (red dot) ?

Good question - I mean that the product quantity has reduced to 0 - so the product is still enabled.

Using a clean new install of v1.3.9f, I can't recreate your problem.

I've tried the following scenarios:
a) Inventory = 0
- login
- add item to cart
- logout
- use admin to change inventory for that product to 0
- login
- attempt to checkout ... redirects me to shopping cart page because of a problem with quantities
- On the shopping-cart page it shows me what's wrong: "Products marked with *** are out of stock. Items not in stock will be placed on backorder."
- It does allow me to check out because my store's stock settings are configured to allow that.

b) Product Status is disabled.
- login
- add item to cart
- logout
- use admin to turn product off by clicking green dot to make it red
- login
- shopping cart is empty because the disabled product has been removed from the cart due to being disabled
- it does not allow me to checkout because there's nothing in my cart

Similar thing happens if I add two different products to my cart, and disable one of them: the disabled product is automatically removed from the cart. The remaining product is still in the cart, and I can checkout with that item without problems.

OK thank you. It is obviously a problem with 1.3.9e. I should probably just update to 1.3.9f to eliminate the problem

Actually, no, I don't think it's a problem with 1.3.9e. The behaviour I described works on 1.3.8a as well.

With respect to your scenario the following step just doesn't happen.

I have just checked the "stock" section in the admin panel and I do not allow checkout when stock is out i.e. the allow checkout field is set to false. I think this might be different in your scenario. If you change this to false - can you recreate the problem?

- It does not allow me to check out because of the error message.

super - that error message is just not showing up for me - so at least I've narrowed down what to look for. still haven't a notion how to fix but it is hopefully something straightforward.
