One product but different colour options, how to control stock for colour attribute?

Hi, I'm sure others have come across this problem but cannot find the right thing in the forums and am uncertain what to search for.

When you add a new product you enter the quantity, but what if you have a product that comes in an assortement of colours?

When I add a colour attribute dropdown theres no way of entering how many of each colour I have to sell.

So if i sell out of red, red will still show in the dropdown unless i manually delete it from the colour attribute. This is not ideal as we have hundreds of products and it will be a nightmare manually monitering it.

Is there an add on? or am i missing something in the attributes?
