Download links do not appear

I'm using ver 1.3.9d without addons.

I've looked in the FAQ and Forum but haven't found the answer to my problem. I've seen similiar situations that have been resolved.

After successful payment through paypal, the customer is redirected back to the "thank you" page but the download link doesn't appear there. Going to 'my account' and viewing the order information the download link doesn't appear either.

I can take their money but can't furnish the product. Please help before I completely give up.

Your server apparently is having problems with receiving communications from PayPal's server ... and that's required if you're going to use the Website Payments Standard module.

Switch to PayPal Express Checkout which doesn't rely on that communication to complete your orders.

What is the status of the order? What range of order_status values do you have configured to enable the downloads (see Configuration->Attribute Settings->Downloads Controller Order Status ... values)?

If the order_status value of the order is not in the range specified for the downloads controller, the download will be "on hold". You can change an order's status via Customers->Orders to put the order into a state where the download is enabled.

You might need to review your payment methods, to see which order status value is applied to an order. For example, you wouldn't want a download paid by check/money order to allow the download until you actually receive/cash the check; on the other hand, a PayPal or other payment gateway's successful completion should enable the download when the customer returns to the checkout_success page.
