Global Features - What is it?

Hi Folks,
I've searched but can't find the answer to this.
What are Global features and do I need them on or off.
What does it do?

Where are you seeing Global Features?
How is it being stated?
Could be features that allow selling around the world...

It appears in the product areas eg product options.
I wondered if it was for being able to be seen World wide as well, but I have read a few postings that say it should be turned off for better security.

It's in the Attributes Controller, and it just gives you the option to turn off the display of options which allow you to apply attributes 'globally', that is, across all categories, etc. I'm not sure what real purpose it serves.

Hmmm, looks like you don't believe me.

Okay, go to Catalogue>Option name manager.
There are two buttons with "Attribute Controller" and Option Value".
Right next to that it says in a dropdown box "Display Global Features on". If you click on it, it will show "Global Features Off".

Underneath in Red it has"Warning: Always make proper backups of your database before making global changes.

Sorry, that link says Global Register. Are they talking about the same thing?
