    Default Complex product Compatibility Filter

    Hi all,
Apologies in advance if this has been answered elsewhere, I've searched high and low but can't find anything.

I run a store (dksales.co.uk) selling mainly two way radio equipment. We have multiple top level product type categories such as headsets, batteries etc. Batteries or headsets can be compatible with one or more manufacturers.

What I want it a quick an easy way to relate manufacturer (or product compatibility with each product. Creating a attribute (compatible with) wouldn't work since any product could be compatible with up to 50 manufacturers. Cross sell partly seems to achieve however I want to (in order of preference)...

    1) Option to filter products in any category by compatibility (e.g in 'Batteries' show only those compatible with Motorola
    2) Product can be compatible with 1 or more manufacturers
    3) Have a search by compatibility option. E.g search for all products compatible with manufacturer 'Motorola' and Model 'GP340' and then from search results browse via subcategories (Earpieces (20 results), batteries (50 results) etc)
    4) Show on a products page 'Products compatible with this radio'
    5) In doing so ensure that the product info and it's compatability is reflected and viewable by search engines, so when searching for a Motorola GP340 headset one of our compatible models show up (at the moment only way to achieve this seems to be copying headsets and ammending description for each radio model it is compatible with, which takes an hour to add a product).

The only way I can see to PARTLY achieve this is to create manufacturers subcategories in each product type category and copy each product into it, changing the name to reflect it's compatible with x brand. However this could be infinite because a single headset may need to be copied and amended 50 times for each Motorola Radio model, then 50 times for each Icom radio etc. Is there any way to do this in bulk rather than one at a time? I'd have to copy as opposed to link the products each time since the name would change.

Any mods that would do this, surely I'm not the only person to have asked for this? :-(

    Running v1.3.9e on PHP/MySQL/Linux.

    Default Re: Complex Compatibility Filter

    5) I'm not sure this is possible - I read a Google article recently mentioning that they can't see into search results.
