Odd Characters in New/Add Products

I sure hope this isn't a dumb "smack yourself in the head/I wish I had a V8" question.

Just upgraded client from v 1.3.8.a to 1.3.9.g on his wholesale site. Database has been patched. Client had reported php errors when clicking on view all/new products underneath category menu in 1.3.8.a. Upgrade seems to be working fine, except now when clicking on "all/new products", there is a stray character underneath each product listing. See here:

Can anyone give me an idea of what is causing this, and how to go about removing it?

Could you check on those listings the Maximum Values for the Product Description ...

Peek in Configuration ... New Listing ...

Display Product Description
How many characters do you want to display of the Product Description?

0= OFF
150= Suggested Length, or enter the maximum number of characters to display

Try setting it to the default of 150 ...

I'm not sure who changed that/when it was changed, but it sure looked odd with just that one character there on each of the listings, like there was some sort of secret message...
