Default Shipping Prices off slightly - table rate question

    Hi,

Been looking at the quotes that UPS and Can Post are giving me vs. what I'm seeing on Zencart. They may be off $1-2.00 +-

For the Canada Post ones it may be because of the table rates seen? I went to CP website and they give letter rates and parcel rates - the CP shipping module has the option "Enable Lettermail Rates" true/false - currently set to true.

I was thinking that it might have something to do with the table rates - maybe in the module they might have to be modified? (rates can change from time to time)

If the table rates do need to be modified to give a more correct price how do I do it? I looked at the table rates on the CP site and when I saw it I just went OMG!!!

Have yet to test the UPS one but I don't see any table rates - this other post may have a bearing on my question - ZC is showing a box when I don't want it to. and basically the wieght of the product contains a tare value (ie. product is 10gr, package 5gr - total weight is 15gr) - tare values in shipping/packaging are set to zero.

Is there a setting in the shipping module for 'type of pickup' or something like that?

I know with UPS there are options to set the type of pickup (drop off, store pickup, etc...) and type of delivery (residential vs commercial).

Adjusting these with various methods will result in higher or lower quoted rates returned. UPS has rules that quote based on these factors.

What I do is make sure the account is setup for the proper type of delivery and pickup then get some rates. If they aren't accurate I add a 'percentage' increase to the final rates (not seen by the customer) to bring them up to proper levels.

Let me know if that helps any. It might point you in the right direction.

Here are the details from the module setup after it's installed (minus my information )

I'm kind of thinking that it might have something to do with the letter rates - I think there's also a parcel rates but it's not part of the module - I'd have to check the parcel rates thing.

I also don't understand the table rates - any idea what that or the structure of it means?

If you are thinking it has to do with letter mail, have you considered adjusting the weight here to see what happens?

Here's how you read these (using Canada as the example):

    0.030:0.52, 0.050:0.96, 0.500:2.65

Anything with a weight of 0 to .030 gets charged .52 cents, anything with a weight of .031 to .050 gets charged .96 cents, anything with a weight of .050 to .5 gets charged 2.65 cents,
anything over .5 weight is not charged anything.

So your rate schedule here gives pricing for weights from 0 up to .5 but nothing higher.

Let me know if that helps explain it.
