intermittent slow loading

I'm a newbie. My Zen cart site has been running for a little over a month, and ever since first installing, I've had intermittent slow loading. Every so often (several times a day, at least) it will take up to a minute for a page (home page, product page, admin page, whatever) to load. The slow load can happen at any point--on initial entry to the site that day, or after I've been working in admin for over an hour adding products. It seems completely random.

I am running version v1.3.9f. (Too chicken to install the new v1.3.9g.) It's installed on my friend's server, along with several other sites I've built that aren't shopping carts. None of those sites load slowly.

I've done all the things that the FAQs about slow loading suggest except for turning off specials on the home page. (The intermittent slow loading occurred even before there were specials on the home page.)

Does this sound like a server-side problem? Or is there something obvious one of you can see in the way I've set things up? Here's the domain name, with spaces between each letter to befuddle the search engines.

No details about your server???

But ZenCart, like many CMS applications are DB driven and the server must be capable of/configured for DB intensive operations

Sorry! It's Apache, Fedora 12, with 512 gigabyte of memory. My friend's server. She's a programmer.

Sure that is not 512MB - - Which is a low number for a web server

I know of NO server that can be populated with 512GB of memory
At 4GB per stick that would be 128 sticks
Bottomline and no defference to your friend, if you want to get serious about an online shop select a good hosting company

I asked again. She says gigabytes. I believe you, AND I believe her. (She's got serious machines in her house, and she's been programming for thirty years, so I don't think she'd confuse gigabytes and megabytes. You have major cred as a Zen Cart god. Me, I am just dust.)

Here are other numbers she says you might want. When we have two known users loading the site, Apache uses 10% of the CPU, which peaks at 27%, and 2% of the memory, and MySQL uses 4.4% of the memory.

OK. Just to make sure, this is the two part answer:

1. Zen Cart never has intermittent slow loading problems.

2. Intermittent slow loading must be a server-side problem.
