Default Inventory vs Attributes

How can I link my inventory to the attributes. Lets say I have 12 cans of the same type, 4 large, 4 med and 4 small. When I add the attributes what is there to stop the customer from ordering 10 of one size? how do I distinguish between the amount of inventory vs the size designation. Do I need to enter each size as a seperate part?

there is a module for stock by attribute in the download section. You can assign quantity to each attribute under any product.

Trying to install "stock by attributes". Installation says to :
1)Create a new database table and a new configuration switch by running the 'stock_attribute.sql' via Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patches. If you prefer to use another method to create this table, you will need to edit the file if you use a prefix such as "zen_" for your tables. I think I have this done.
2)Prepare the package for upload to your server by renaming the following folders to match your template name: includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE Unable to locate this file? includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE. I found this one and renamed it to match.

3)If you are installing onto a new install or upgrade of Zen Cart 1.3.5 or later then with most good FTP programs (such as FileZilla) you can simply drag and drop the admin and includes directories into the root directory of your site. The files are already arranged in their directory structure. There is no admin folder in my public-html folder.Any help would be great. Please be specfic. Thanks

UPDATE:
I have installed the add on and it does show up in the admin area. I am able to select the product and change the inventory amount attribute but when I go to the actual store it will allow me to purchase the total inventory amount of each attribute. If I select more then the inventory amount of one size it will show out of stock. Is there something not set correct?
